A thought is deliberate meditation and application of mental attention towards a concept, opinion, or an idea.* Thoughts are what occupy our minds throughout the day and play an important role in our lives; for what you think, you will end up becoming.
"For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he." - Proverbs 23:7**
A thought flits across the vast expanse of your mind for a split second, and is gone - unless you hold onto it; and when you do, it captures your attention so that your mind feeds itself off of that thought. As this thought continues to swirl around in your mind, it starts to seep into your heart and dwell there. Once fixed inside, the contents of that thought start to reveal itself in your actions and speech. This then becomes a habit. ...
"... for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." - Matthew 12:34
The habit gets stronger in your everyday living, and so is the road of that thought which is paving its way throughout your mind. This, which has developed from a simple though, starts to define you; giving you a character.
A character is a combination of distinguishable traits and qualities in the individual soul, or being of a person, and from your character, your destiny is set out before you.
To use the quote of a famous American essayist, lecturer, and poet:
"Sow a thought,
Reap an action;
Sow an action,
Reap a habit;
Sow a habit,
Reap a character;
Sow a character,
Reap a destiny." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Our thoughts a very important and one of the best things to know is that we can control them. The Word of God says, "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;..." - 2 Corinthians 10:5, and it also gives us instruction of what to think about: "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things a true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." - Philippians 4:8 (emphasis added).
If we rebuke (severely reprimand) the devil and all the little henchmen he may bring, we can renew our minds, take on the mind of Christ, and stand victorious against all odds, for in Romans 8:31 it says, "What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?"
So don't let the devil run you over today with the bombardment of wrong thoughts. Stand strong in your conviction, stand speaking the Word, and above all, stand in Jesus' name, because when you resist the devil in the name of Jesus, he will flee.
"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you." - James 4:7-8.
