Break Perfectionism

I'm tired of being ashamed of the words I write that I know to be true.

Break perfectionism.

There are things you can’t do perfectly.

Do them anyway.

Break perfectionism by celebrating with the God who celebrates you, despite your imperfection.

Read out loud, though you stutter. (exodus 4:12)

Be honest about how you feel, though it seems silly.

Write and share blog posts & words you’ve written even when you don’t think it will make a difference because you could be saying some things wrong and people will miss the point because you’re not articulating yourself properly.

Go kneeboarding, though you fall off countless times and struggle to get back up.

Tell stories of your mistakes, to encourage others.

Play games you’re not good at.

Tell the truth, even when you think it could always be written or said better. (proverbs 12:17)

Listen to that inner voice even when you’re afraid, even though the outcome is anything other than what you imagined. (matthew 10:19)

Play your music and be glad for your passion, though you make many mistakes. (ephesians 2:10)

Pray for people, though you think someone else could do it better. (james 5:16)

Hug that person you know you should, even when you don’t have all the reasons or answers.

Climb a mountain even if it makes you look unfit.

Throw out your good ideas without overthinking them to the point that they aren’t anymore to you.

Listen to a kids heart when they’re talking, you don’t need to say the perfect thing.

Trust your own judgement from the Spirit you have within you, learning comes with mistakes. (romans 15:13)

Say what you believe, no one has perfect theology. (2 corinthians 4:13)

Listen to good instruction even when you’re burning to defend yourself. (proverbs 19:20)

Talk about struggles without comparison. (john 21:22)

Decide to live without the shame of imperfection. (2 corinthians 4:2)

Learn what it is to break in front of people, let it teach you not that tears are the definition of weakness, but that it is strength to show the compassionate heart of God through your emotions.

Contribute your brokenness.

Give of your soul.

Trust people when it’s hard and they’ve let you down before. (matthew 5:39)

Love the ones who never give back. (luke 6:32)

Never withhold a second chance. (matthew 18:22)

Accept your failings and believe that this is how you receive grace.

This is perfection: sharing the grace through that which is imperfect with imperfect, spirit-filled, broken people.

There is nothing more perfect than to live a life revealing to the world that loneliness is nonexistent.

No one is alone in their brokenness.

Why else would He aliken us all to fragile clay jars? (2 cor 4:7)

The Light pouring from these cracks is meant to bring us back together.

Break perfectionism.

Break the bonds of fear, the doubt, the pride.

You are free indeed! (john 8:36)

Let there be no shame in the tears we cry upon our Jesus‘ feet, as we break our perfume bottles before him. (luke 7:38)

May he accept the sweet fragrance of our shared brokenness, dancing and rejoicing over our found freedom with delight, like the widow over her found copper coin. (luke 15:9)

And all is grace. (ephesians 4:7)

May we be filled, that we may overflow as we submit our hearts and lives, first to God, then to each other. (ephesians 5:21)

To God be all the glory. (2 thessalonians 1:12)
