Holy is the Lord

"Holy is the Lord..."

Those four words are so humbling.

"And the Levites who were musicians - Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and all their songs and brothers - were dressed in fine linen robes and stood at the east side of the altar playing cymbals, lyres, and harps. They were joined by 120 priests who were playing trumpets. The trumpeters and singers performed together in unison to praise and give thanks to the Lord.
Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments, they raise their voices and praised the Lord with these words:
"He is good! His faithful love endures forever!"
At that moment a thick cloud filled the Temple of the Lord. The priests could not continue their service because of the cloud, for the glorious presence of the Lord filled the Temple of God."
- 2 Chronicles 5:12-14 NLT

I love the fact that all these priests and Levite musicians dressed in fine linen & robes and played together "in unison", singing the seemingly simple words, "He is good! His faithful love endures forever!" and the Lord appeared, in a Presence so strong that they could not even continue in worship & finish the service.

We needn't dress up our worship with the latest new songs, new message, fancy lyrics, dazzling lights & music, to truly worship and experience a closeness of His Spirit with us.

Simply those words, as the priests and Levites sang and praised with their voices, hearts and a unison of spirit. I find that amazing.

"They were calling out to each other, "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Heaven's Armies! The whole earth is filled with His glory!"
- Isaiah 6:3 NLT

The angels! They sing to the Lord day and night, never ceasing:

"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord..."

There is power in those words. I feel the weight of the word 'holy.' A trembling fear of the Lord.

I know that I sometimes do not use it in a righteous way or in that specific regard as the Scriptures dictate, but I do believe that it is a sacred word in reference to the Lord. And no matter what happens on this earth, that is what He will remain: holy. The word in itself leaves one with a deep sense of knowing awe, reverence, fear, and wonder.

I end with a quote from A. W. Tozer:

"Reverence is the astonished awe that comes to the human heart when it sees God."
